Injunction stayed, then paused, as of Dec. 27th reporting rule vacated by Pinedale Online! December 28, 2024 Two days before Christmas, the Fifth Circuit Appeals Court in Louisiana reversed a Texas court’s injunction of the 2021 Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) and reinstated the law while the court case proceeds, putting the filing requirement back in effect. The original deadline to file was January 1, 2025, but the Biden Administration Department of the Treasury has extended the deadline to January 13, 2025 (Donald Trump gets sworn in President on January 20th). With this filing requirement, small business owners face jail time and fines of up to $10,000 for not reporting who their owners are. The court battles continue into the holiday season and as the new year approaches. |
