Wyoming GOP requests thousands of documents from Freudenthal administration
Requests contracts, agreements, memoranda of understanding, log books, more
June 20, 2006
On Friday, June 9, 2006, Wyoming Republican Party Chairman Drake Hill sent letters to Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal’s office, the State Aeronautics Division and the State Auditor requesting what amounts to possibly hundreds of thousands of documents, and possibly hundreds of man-hours to collect these documents, under a Public Records Request under the provisions of the Wyoming Public Records Act.
The GOP asked to inspect, and potentially copy, government public records dating from the present date back to January 1, 2003 from some 170 state agencies, departments, boards and commissions.
Documents requested include contracts, agreements, memoranda of understanding, log books, mileage forms, costs, number of airplane trips, airplane trip schedules and stops, airplane passenger lists, reasons for use of state-owned airplanes, agencies and funding accounts paying for airplane use by Governor Freudenthal, contracts entered into between the Office of the Governor and outside legal counsel, consultants or ‘other services’, outside legal counsel, consultants or services contracted by any state agency and/or department or board or commission, all documents related to the lobbying activities of Nancy Freduenthal and Steve Freudenthal, all documents and log books and mileage books for anyone with the Wyoming Highway Patrol or any state agency which drove Nancy Freudenthal to any event/meeting/conference/activity regardless to whether she attended the event as First Lady or as a private attorney or on behalf of a client, and other public records.
The GOP specifically requested to see any contracts for legal services with Bill Sniffin, the law firm of Freudenthal, Salzburg & Bonds PC, and the law firm of Davis and Canon.
The GOP letter broadly requests documents regardless of physical form including hard copies, electronic format or micro-film, including all material in the state’s files regardless of who created them, including state agencies, federal agencies, private organizations, public organizations, government entities or individuals.
Governor Dave Freudenthal has directed all state agencies and organizations to comply with the GOP’s request.
