Accident south of LaBarge kills Evanston man

A one-vehicle roll-over accident south of LaBarge killed an Evanston man on Monday, December 4. Two vehicles and four people were involved in the accident. Derek R. Laffredi of Evanston, age 22, was killed in the roll-over.
The accident happened around 3:30 pm on Monday, December 4, 5.6 miles south of LaBarge on US Highway 189 in Lincoln County.
According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Laffredi was a passenger in a pickup truck being driven by 27-year old John McLaughlin of Evanston. They were traveling southbound on Hwy 189 when McLaughlin swerved to avoid hitting a deer crossing the road in front of them. He then lost control of his vehicle and they crossed the center line going into the southbound lane of travel in the path of a pick up truck going the other direction driven by Hector C. Saldana-Quiroz, age 44, of McKinnon, Wyoming. Both vehicles then hit nearly head-on in the southbound lane. After impact, the McLaughlin vehicle then rolled 3½ times. During the rollover, Laffredi was partially ejected out the pickup’s rear window.
All four passengers in both vehicles were wearing seatbelts. Laffredi died at the scene. McLaughlin and Saldana-Quiroz refused treatment. The fourth passenger in the second truck, 21-year old Tristen C. Lewis of Diamondville, was not injured.
