A reality: Wyoming Supercomputer Facility
News from Congress
by Senator Craig Thomas, Senator Mike Enzi, Representative Barbara Cubin
January 24, 2007

(Washington, D.C.) - The Wyoming delegation praised the recent decision to build a supercomputing data center for scientific research in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

"We applaud the states' effort in making Cheyenne a legitimate candidate for the national supercomputing facility. Both state and local officials, along with the University of Wyoming worked very hard to make the datacenter partnership possible. As our country becomes increasingly reliant on science and technology, we must continue providing the state-of-the-art infrastructure necessary to continue groundbreaking work in these fields."

In a June 29, 2006 letter to the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and the University Corporation for Atmospheric Science (UCAR), the delegation supported Wyoming's application for the supercomputer center and highly recommended Cheyenne as the new host city to both NCAR and UCAR.

Once built, the facility will notably highlight Wyoming as a forefront leader in the field of geoscience research and digital telecommunications capability. Additionally, by increasing aptitude and understanding in the field of geoscience, Wyoming will play a central role in advancing our world's understanding of climate, weather and other atmospheric processes.
