February 12, 2009 Forbes.com has an AP story about the Wyoming helium tax bill being approved in the House and now moving to the Senate. The bill cleans up a disparity in the state’s efforts to tax helium which is recovered in some natural gas well operations. This impacts taxes paid by Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM) in their Shute Creek facility in Sublette County, as well as the upcoming Cimarex (XEC) project planned in the Wyoming Range west of Big Piney.
