Wildfire update

South Horse Fire The South Horse Fire has grown to 135 acres in size, as of Sunday, October 2nd. It was discovered Thursday, September 29 burning in heavy dead and down timber. It is located 35 miles west of Pinedale in South Horse Creek drainage southeast of Prospect Peak in the Wyoming Range on the Big Piney Ranger District. This human-caused fire is under investigation. Additional resources are working on the fire. Currently assigned are one Type 1 Hotshot Crew, one Type 2 handcrew, one helicopter, and two engines to arrive Sunday, October 2nd. Additional firefighters and other resources may be assigned to the incident to meet objectives as fire activity increases or scale back during quiet periods of the fire.
There are no closures associated with the fire at this time, but the closure status may change if fire activity increases. Hunters and recreationists to the area are advised to stay informed on current weather forecasts and fire behavior and have alternate routes planned. Numerous hazards exist and visitors are encouraged to avoid being in or near the vicinity of the fire.

Aspen Creek Fire There has been no significant change on Aspen Creek Fire, as of Sunday, October 2nd. The fire is located 32 miles southeast of Pinedale, Wyoming on Muddy Ridge and is burning in heavy dead and down bug killed timber. Fire Managers will manage the fire for multiple resource objectives.
Fire is now approximately 95 acres. Resources assigned include four Fire Effects Monitors, three engines, and one helicopter. Crews are scouting and monitoring the fire. Management Plans are in place and being implemented based on fire activity.
An Emergency Road Closure is now in effect for Forest roads #864, 864A, 864B, 864D and 865. These closures are necessary to provide protection to the public from hazards associated with the fire. The public is asked to be cautious when driving on the Big Sandy Road as there may be large fire engines and other fire traffic.
Gray Hills Fire (Red Rock Complex) A lightning storm on September 4th started this fire on the north side of the Gros Ventre River on the Jackson Ranger District. Located in the Gray Hills area, the fire is being managed by a type 3 team that is also monitoring the Red Rock Fire. Smoke will be visible from the Gros Ventre road. The fire behavior is active with short runs and isolated tree torching. The Gray Hills Fire is 1,230 acres. Fire crews are attempting to keep the fire moving to the northeast toward the 2009 Gunsight Fire area. A temporary area closure has gone into effect around the Dallas Creek Drainage. Elk hunting season opened in the Gros Ventre are on October 1st. Anyone planning to be in the vicinity of the Gray Hills fire is advised to stay informed on current weather forecasts and fire behavior and have alternate routes planned to get back out to their vehicles. There are many dispersed campsites available along the Gros Ventre Road. Hunters are also asked to be aware of firefighters in the area wearing yellow or dingy yellow shirts that may be mistaken for aspen or the tawny color of elk.
