Aniel Daniel Chili Cookoff raises over $3,000

Congratulations to winners in the 30th Aniel Daniel Chili Cookoff and Dessert Auction! Number of chili entries: 7 red and 7 green. Chili judges were Sue and Gene Eversull, Eric Lippincott, Don Myers, Kent Van, and Rod Matthews. Each winner received an embroidered apron made by Nan from The Talking T-Shirt in Daniel and received a portion of the chili entry proceeds. Special thanks to Viola and Lorelei for donating back their winnings to the Community Center. Here are the results:

First Place Red - Viola Villarreal and Lorelei Lamaureau Second Place Red - Gregory Allen, Sr. Third Place Red - Amanda Calhoun
Cakes, pies, brownies, cookies, cupcakes, chocolate-covered strawberries and blackberries, and cream puffs were donated for the dessert auction.
Congratulations to Amanda Calhoun for the best decorated cake, a Rice Krispy Pot o' Gold that celebrated St. Patrick's Day. The dessert that raised the most money ($175) was a lemon meringue pie made by Sue Eversull and bought by Rena Looney. Paul Jensen signed copies of his latest book All In a Day's Ride, The History of Horse Creek. Paul has donated the proceeds from several hundred copies to the Daniel Community Center. Thanks to all community members who helped by making salads, cornbread, delicious desserts, and extra chili. Many others contributed their time and energy in organizing, setting up and cleaning the schoolhouse.
