Subcommittee on Federal Natural Resource Management meets May 14
Meeting in Rock Springs
April 19, 2012
Recently, the Wyoming State Legislature appointed a Subcommittee to consider issues of concern to Wyoming citizens surrounding the management of federal lands and natural resources in Wyoming. The Subcommittee is comprised of the Chairmen of Minerals, Business and Economic Development Interim Committee; Sen. Eli Bebout and Rep. Tom Lockhart, the Chairmen of the Agriculture, State and Public Lands and Water Resources Interim Committee, Sen. Gerald Geis and Rep. Mark Semlek and two members of the minority party, Sen. John Hastert and Rep. Patrick Goggles. The Subcommittee is specifically tasked to: "meet as necessary to review existing or proposed federal policies or action which may impact the management, development or use of the state's natural resources. The Joint Subcommittee shall develop and forward to the Governor and the appropriate legislative committees recommended legislative responses to federal policies and actions necessary to protect the interests of the State of Wyoming." The Subcommittee will hold its first meeting on Monday, May 14th in Rock Springs. During the afternoon of this meeting, the Subcommittee wishes to receive testimony from interested parties with diverse viewpoints on issues impacting federal land and natural resource management in Wyoming. Those interests and issues include, but may not be limited to: local governments, timber, energy development (both conventional and alternative), agriculture, endangered species, water use, hunting and fishing, recreationalists, conservation and invasive species. The hope is that after receiving this testimony, the Committee will focus its efforts on developing legislation and policies which address the most pressing issues impacting federal land management in Wyoming. If a group or agency wishes to be placed on the agenda for the May 14th meeting, please contact Matt Obrecht, Staff Attorney, Wyoming Legislative Service Office in Cheyenne, phone: 307-777-7881, matt.obrecht@wyoleg.gov, as soon as possible to discuss. They will try not to have too much overlapping of testimony.
