Teton Interagency firefighters responded to two more fires this afternoon. Additional firefighting resources are working on several other fires in the area. At 1pm on Monday, August 5, Teton Interagency firefighters responded to a fire near Swift Creek on the Greys River Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest, just outside of Afton, Wyoming. The Swift fire is burning in the head of Jensen Creek, approximately 3-miles southeast of Grover, WY. The fire is currently 1/10 acre and burning in heavy timber. At 4:15pm, a fire was reported on Huckleberry Ridge in the Teton Wilderness of the Bridger-Teton National Forest, south of Yellowstone National Park. This fire is visible from Gros Ventre Junction and resources are traveling to the fire to determine the types of fuels or materials that the fire is burning, and the size of the fire. The Kendall Mountain Fire and the Green Fire, both burning on the Pinedale Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest have shown increased activity and some growth today. The Kendall Fire is burning in the Bridger Wilderness just west of Boulder Basin in high, rocky terrain and is currently 1-acre. The Green Fire is also 1-acre about 15-miles to the north of the Kendall Fire in a string of timber and adjacent lighter fuel. Fire resources are following up on reports of additional smokes in the area. The Moose Fire is burning in Moose Basin in the upper end of Webb Canyon in Grand Teton National Park. Two jumpers are assigned to the lightning-caused Moose Fire, which is burning on the west slope of a ridge in mixed conifers. The fire is approximately 2-acres in size. Firefighters are continuing to monitor the fire to assess its spread potential, and make sure it will not impact the Moose Basin Patrol Cabin, which is 1 1/2 miles to the north. Rock Creek Fire is a small fire and is still burning west of Mount Leidy on the Buffalo Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest. Anyone seeing smoke is asked to please report it by calling 911, or by calling the Teton Interagency Dispatch Center at 307-739-3630.
