Cycling team rides 4,500 miles from Texas to Alaska for cancer awareness November 12, 2013 The 2014 Texas 4000 Riders are preparing for their journey from Texas to Alaska next summer, and is seeking a host sponsor for their stop in Pinedale. The Texas 4000 is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based at the University of Texas at Austin. Every summer, they organize a 4,500 mile cycling ride from Texas to Alaska, where riders travel across the country on bikes to spread hope, knowledge and cancer awareness in hopes of finding a cure. Each rider fundraises a minimum of $4,500 (and many raise more) to donate to world-class cancer research institutions such as MD Anderson in Houston, Texas. Since 2003, when Texas 4000 was founded by a passel of college students, they have raised over $3.5 million to donate to finding a cure for cancer and spread hope, knowledge and charity from South Texas all the way to Anchorage, Alaska. For more information about their organization, go to http://www.texas4000.org/. |
