The Pinedale Fine Arts Council is excited to kick off their 2014-2015 season ticket series with Southern California modern dance company Backhausdance performing Friday, September 12 at 7 p.m. in the Pinedale Auditorium.
Backhausdance, a contemporary dance company, was formed in January of 2003 with the mission to expose and educate the community about the relevance and vitality of concert dance. Backhausdance has an eclectic and dynamic vocabulary borrowing from many dance styles. Their movement is physically demanding and original with a wonderful sense of fluidity and strength. The company has received 15 nominations and ten awards from the Dance Resource Center of Los Angeles for achievements in choreography, design, and performance, helping propel them to the forefront of Southern California modern dance. Backhausdance has a diverse repertory that is entertaining as well as artistic. Repertory works include powerful, athletic dances, emotionally charged dramatic pieces, and whimsical, humorous glimpses at the human experience. All works are professionally produced with beautiful lighting and costume designs. Backhausdance also offers concert pieces with a focus on younger audiences that include master class workshop components.
The company will be performing a mixed repertory for the Pinedale show including the acclaimed piece "Incandescent." Based on the theme of illumination, "Incandescent" explores light in both a physical and spiritual sense. Incandescent evokes a sense of discovery and expression of the human experience by igniting the internal shadow and bringing it to light. The piece has dancers shifting through various configurations of hundreds of light bulbs suspended from above with creative lighting techniques that help express the spectrum of emotions they experience on their journey.
Ticket prices for the Sept. 12 performance are $15 for adults and $7 for students (kids under the age of 5 are free). Tickets are available online at pinedalefinearts.com and are also on sale at Rock Rabbit, Pine Street Floral & Gifts, The Cowboy Shop, Office Outlets, Isabel Jewelry, the Big Piney Library and at the door the night of the performance ($2 extra).
Backhausdance live in Pinedale is presented by the Pinedale Fine Arts Council with support in part from the Wyoming Arts Council through funding from the Wyoming Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts which believes a great nation deserves great art, Sublette BOCES, SCSD #1, Western Sublette BOCES #9, the Sublette County Recreation Board, the Sublette Community Foundation, Jonah Energy, Linn Energy, QEP Resources, Tegelers & Associates, Wyoming Community Foundation, Ultra, 1st Bank and Denbury.
