November 26, 2014
A two vehicle crash on Tuesday, November 25th resulted in the death of 61-year old Terry E. Lowen of Pinedale, Wyoming. The crash occurred at 5:35 p.m. at mile post 104 on US 191 approximately two miles north of Pinedale.
Mr. Lowen was travelling north in a 2002 Deawoo Lanos passenger car when he lost control of the vehicle on icy roads after passing a snowplow. After the loss of control, the Deawoo entered a "fishtail" rotation and ultimately slid into the southbound lane into the path of a southbound 2012 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by 38-year old Rhett Thorburn of Wilson, Wyoming. Mr. Thorburn attempted to stop to avoid a collision, but could not do so on the icy road. The two vehicles impacted in a "t-bone" fashion.
Mr. Lowen was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, but still sustained fatal injuries on scene from the crash. Mr. Thorburn and his passenger, 47-year old Lisa Braley, also from Wilson, were both transported by ground ambulance to the Pinedale Clinic where they were treated and released. Both Mr. Thorburn and Lisa Braley were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
The crash did cause the temporary closure of the highway. Weather conditions are being considered as the main contributing factor in this crash. __________________________________________ Sergeant David Wagener Wyoming Highway Patrol Public Relations and Recruitment 5300 Bishop Boulevard Cheyenne, WY 82009
