Fox News posted an article about a growing number of police chiefs and sheriffs across the United States who are openly encouraging responsible gun ownership.
In the wake of what appears to be more lone wolf mass shootings and the looming threats of surprise terrorist attacks, gun ownership and concealed carry permits have soared nationwide. The position of law enforcement is shifting more towards an attitude that people need to be part of the solution to help stop crime by being able to defend themselves in fast-acting situations before law enforcement has a chance to arrive. Elected officials have seen the dramatic shift in the mood of the people they have been elected to serve and the reality that guns in the hands of responsible trained citizens allows them to be first responders and protect themselves before the police can arrive. When seconds matter, the police are minutes away. One Florida sheriff said a gun in the hand is more important than a cop on the phone. Wyoming gun control laws are among the least restrictive in the United States. Wyoming law does not require a permit or registration to buy, own, or carry a gun and has no waiting period for prospective gun buyers, so long as they meet certain eligibility requirements for gun ownership. Anyone convicted of a violent felony or attempt to commit violent felony cannot legally purchase a firearm in Wyoming. The state allows permit-less carry buy and also "shall issue" permits to allow residents to carry in reciprocal states.
