Controlled burns of interior fuels and doing line construction by Pinedale Online! July 24, 2016 Beginning Sunday, July 24th, firefighters on the Cliff Creek Fire have started doing burnouts in the fire area. A burnout is setting fire inside a control line to consume fuel between the edge of the fire and the control line. Often referred to as "fighting fire with fire," the controlled burn will burn strip(s) of vegetation to create a barrier to the oncoming forest fire by using up all the available fuel between the burnout and the main fire. It may take several days to complete the burnout operations, during which time the public might see an increase in smoke coming from the fire area.
