Heat alarm alert causes Sublette County Unified Fire to respond to the Pinedale Town Shop. On September 13th at 10:36 AM Unified Fire Battalions 1 (Pinedale), 4 (Boulder) and 5 (Daniel) were dispatched to the town shop on South Pinedale Rd. for a report of an activated smoke alarm.
The reported alarm was located in the utility room of the town shop. Upon arrival the fire department extended the fire engine aerial ladder to the roof of the building with two firefighters in the bucket. Three firefighters entered the building through a ground floor door. The firefighters made their way to the utility room to assess the cause of the alarm activation.
What could have been a very serious fire situation turned out to be an overheated furnace malfunction. Tragedy was avoided this time, but it points out the importance of effective code enforcement, furnace maintenance and operative engineering controls that stopped this situation from becoming a potential disaster.
Cold weather is approaching and heating systems, residential and commercial, will be put into full use. Mechanical and wood burning heating systems need to be serviced and cleaned in preparation for the fall heating season.
